Are you speaking to sell or speaking to grow?

In the past I’ve often talked about speaking to sell, but I’ve come to realise that what I really mean is speaking to grow your business. It might sound the same – but it’s really not.

For me and many others the word ‘selling’ sounds uncomfortable, not because we don’t want to sell, but because we don’t want to sell at any cost, to anyone we can persuade via any means possible, and we know that an immediate sale isn’t always the best outcome.

We know that the wrong sales can to lead to buyers remorse, bad reviews, clients that drain our time and energy and ultimately drag our business down.

Speaking to grow our business is different. It’s about connecting with people who align with our values and appreciate the value in what we do. It’s about selling to those who will continue to appreciate that value long after the sale. Its speaking that leads to real conversations and positive outcomes on both sides.

And sometimes speaking to grow isn’t about sales in that room at all. It’s speaking in a way that leads to your name being recommended in the rooms your not yet in. It’s speaking into someone’s heart in a way that begins a collaboration that changes everything.

Speaking to sell can be about abandoning your values, speaking to grow means embracing your values and your mission and knowing how to embody that when you speak.

Speaking to grow happens when you are aligned. That’s why I named my levelling up program The Aligned Speaking School – because I’m not here for you to abandon your values but to embrace them.
